Armadillo central database

ARMADILLO central database that works under the control of the computer department, gathers data destined to a private or public use.
This data can be easily found, thanks to the numerous ARMADILLO search tools (natural language, classification plan, thesaurus or lists) and then be distributed or downloaded.
The key point of ARMADILLO software is its ability to attribute the same object to different groups of users. Each group of users visualizes the same object through its different aspects.
Thus, some of the users, would not see the patient’s identity, others would not access confidential data or data that is not useful to their profile.
One photo can be visible only by the doctor who took it, another one by his department and the third one by everybody. At any time, the groups of doctors can decide to share or to stop sharing photos.
The minimal group of two allows a doctor to send images to his colleague for interpretation or transfer. In practice, a photo can belong to as many sub-groups as needed with different attributes each: the index commentaries of one group will not be visible by another group.
Thus the central database is a resource of data, with a personalized view for each medical professional, focused on his particular activity.

Armadillo local database

Armadillo local database With digital cameras, every doctor will produce an important amount of images and video of different kinds: JPEG, DICOM, RAW, FLV, MPEG, etc. It would be impossible to upload all of the data to the central database, especially since some of the data may be destined to the doctor’s exclusive use. With ARMADILLO software, the user can edit and index data off line. Once this work is done, the user chooses the data he wishes to upload on the central database.
Therefore, the most efficient solution consists in having the ARMADILLO software installed on one’s personal computer, which allows inserting and indexing photos and videos, the same way it would have been done on the central database. The user can chose the structures he’s interested in on the central database. He can also easily add new fields and new entities, for example to index text data (such as reports edited with Word, articles in PDF or HTML formats,…). This will help him quickly identify his data.
Once the editing and indexing work is done, the user selects the data he wishes to export and hits the key “Export to Armadillo”. The data is then ready to be uploaded as is, after going through the control room, defined beforehand by the computer department.
The « Import to Armadillo » key allows downloading data from the central database to the user’s personal computer.
One can easily imagine the advantages of such a tool for creating conferences or articles documentation. That’s why the personal database offers three additional features, essential to the doctor’s communication and exchange work.
The first feature is the email sending of a selection of full screen low-resolution images. This allows sending images 20 to 100 times lighter than their originals. The original images being sent afterwards and upon the request of the correspondent.
The second feature is the CD creating, containing hundreds of images and including the database engine. Thus the correspondent can navigate through the CD the same way he does on the local database.
The third feature is the creating of an HTML site. Once the images are selected, the “Create a site” key allows creating a simple but well-organized site that lets you navigate through the photos, according to all the indexed categories. This function can be very useful for creating a site for an event or a conference, without any external help or additional cost.
